EMS
SIIX is a Pathfinder in Japanese EMS
In recent years, the word “EMS” (Electronics Manufacturing Services) has come to be seen frequently even in newspapers and other such publications. In 1979, even before the word EMS existed, SIIX had already started doing business overseas (Singapore) and was a pathfinder for Japanese EMS companies.
Subsequently, SIIX expanded its EMS business globally and at present is ranked 13th in the world on the global EMS Company ranking (according to Manufacturing Market Insider, March 2010).

The Background to the Expansion of EMS Business
Behind the expanding use of EMS around the world is the fact that manufacturing has changed in response to changes in the global market. Specifically, while a flood of new demand has been created in association with the rapid growth of the newly-emerging economies on the one hand, needs in respect to products, such as price, quality and design, etc, are extremely diverse due to the characteristics of each country’s market and changes occur rapidly so it has also become important to have a product supply system that can respond to these factors.
As a result, local production has increasingly expanded, using local resources to manufacture products in places as close as possible to the site of consumption. The number of companies trying to increase their mobility of production based on effective use of external resources (outsourcing), in other words EMS, rather than vertically-controlled type manufacturing (in-house, independent style) is increasing, from the perspectives of investment efficiency, business launch speed and flexible responses to the market, etc., in constructing and managing local production systems in various areas of the world.
Various merits are available to OEM makers by using EMS, including the reduction of manufacturing costs and the early introduction of products to market, while the EMS manufacturers are able to pursue scale-based economic merits in both the parts procurement and manufacturing aspects, and accumulate expertise in mass production technology.
